The Centre for Journalism’s Euro 2012 fantasy league looks much like the Premier League season just gone as Ian Reeves (Manchester United) and Jay Akbar (Manchester City) are level on points at the top after the quarter-finals stage - but this time there’s no goal difference to separate the two.

Ian, who was top at the end of Matchday 3, will be pleased with the performances of Rui Patricio, Andrea Barzagli and Jordi Alba but not so pleased with Holger Badstuber, Nani and Milan Baros scoring just four points between them.

For Jay, his choice of Mesut Ozil as captain proved fruitful whilst his defence of Jordi Alba, Glen Johnson and Fabio Coentrao amassed 24 points.

Hot on their heels is Matt Charles, who sits 10 points behind in third. Gigi Buffon, Gerard Pique and Cristiano Ronaldo were the pick of his team.

Lecturer Rob Bailey deserves a mention after scoring the highest point’s total of the quarter-finals stage with 60 and now sits 5th. The Charlton Athletic fan had a mean defence to thank with Iker Casillas (captain), Phillip Lahm, Joao Pereira and Pepe hitting a huge 33 points between them.

The most relieved man of the round is Bill Topping whose Wooden Spoon tag now belongs to Scott Mitchell.

Remember, you have 8 transfers available before the start of the emi-finals stage. You can also change your captain for the semi-finals. The transfers and captains must be made before 6:30pm on Wednesday 27th June.

Comments

If it's still level at the end, we should settle it with a penalty shoot-out.

I'll be Pirlo.
